Crossplay (also called cross-platform play) means players on different gaming platforms — like PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch — can play together in the same online game session. Instead of each platform having its own separate pool of players, everyone shares one. For crossplay to work, the game developer has to build and enable it intentionally. Not all games support it, and some only support it between certain platform pairs.
They're different features. Crossplay is about playing with other people across platforms. Cross-progression (also called cross-save) means your game progress, unlocks, and purchases carry over when you switch platforms. A game can have crossplay without cross-progression, and vice versa.

Partial crossplay usually means the game only works between certain platform combinations — often PC and Xbox, or PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Some games also restrict crossplay by game mode — allowing it in casual matchmaking but separating platforms in ranked or competitive modes.
